September 19th is set to be a huge day for Women and Girls cricket in Worcestershire with a number of events throughout the day celebrating the successes of 2021.
New Road will be hosting the England Women’s team for their ODI against New Zealand and all events on the day will link to the opportunity to watch the game for free.
Eighty women will take part in this year’s Women’s Soft Ball MEGA Fest on the King’s School field behind New Road, participating in multiple games and a group Zumba warm up.
Targeted at women aged 14 and over who have had little or no cricketing experience, the festival will take part in teams of up to eight in multiple games during the day.
MEGA Fest is free for all players and Worcestershire Cricket will provide all equipment. Following the 11 club festivals spread across the county, the event will be contested by 11 teams throughout the morning with some teams competing for the first time.
Worcestershire Cricket will also be celebrating the success of its new Women’s Volunteer Programme, Step Forward, with all participants invited to a VIP Day at the ground to watch the ODI. Step Forward has been a highlight of the year with 18 women completing the programme which included a support coach course, umpiring, scoring and social media workshops.
Club Development Officer Jess Ward said: “We also have had the opportunity to offer free tickets to all juniors across the county who are members of local cricket clubs and have taken part in Worcestershire Cricket competitions. So far, more than 200 tickets have been claimed with additional family members also attending the game.”
