All cricket clubs have an obligation to appoint a Club Welfare Officer (CWO), irrespective as to whether or not they have a junior section at their club. These officers have a remit to provide advice on Safeguarding issues and to ensure that the club adheres to all aspects of Safeguarding.
The CWO should attend a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ (SPC) workshop accredited by UK Coaching and the ECB Safe Hands Workshop. If the CWO has experience of safeguarding through their day-job, then as long as Andy Wheeler, Worcestershire County Welfare Officer, sees a copy of a relevant and in-date safeguarding certificate, the CWO does not need to attend SPC.
